Brigton: Famous for Camping

Pitch your tent on the seafront

In many circles, Brighton is perhaps best known for camping. The Kemptown area is very camp. However, fewer people are perhaps aware that in the city of Brighton And Hove, camping is something that's not just practised by drag queens, but is something that everyone can wave their want at.

If you wnat to bring your tent and spend a few days by the beach, don't think for one minute of finding a camp site, just find an empty shop doorway, or a space in one of our poorly manicured parks and lawns, or use one of the beautifully decrepit Victorian Grade-II listed shelters along the seafront and pitch up. No-one will mind the intrusion, not the children whose playgrounds you can freely defile to avoid trying to find a toilet, nor the local residents who have paid exorbitant rents and council tax to live by the coast.

And don't just stay for a few days, bring your belongings and set-up home here. No-one will move you on, as it takes forever to get a court order to do so, and the council can't be bothered. Whilst you're here, why not join in the Brighton And Hove tradition of begging to raise some cash to buy you a few beers so that you can enjoy the day, ranting away in a drunken drawl to passing tourists.

But don't think of trying this in nearby, up-market seaside resort Worthing. There you will find not only that camping on the streets is not welcome (they don't like it up 'em) but that anyone pitching tents will be charged a daily fee so high that it actually makes sense to move to a members only camping site.
